VRC Flags Rowing in the Summer

A re-print of the e-mail Paul sent to the squad mailing lists:

All,

Now that the summer is reportedly upon us I thought it time to remind everyone about the procedures for the use of equipment during what is always our busy season.

EVENING ROWING

Please remember that for some weeks yet it will be necessary to have white lights fore and aft on ALL boats at least for the return leg of an outing. I refer you to the notices in the club relating to night time rowing but would remind you that use of the Club equipment will be restricted for anyone who does not adhere to this requirement.

USE OF BOATS

Outside of squad activities use of boats may only be with my permission (or in my absence that of Helen as Deputy Captain, Jim as Vice Captain or Dave as Rowing Manager). Please don't use the line 'but I asked x' as we do communicate!

Permission should be sought as far in advance as possible and practical and it must be remembered that squad activities always take precedence.

If you see anyone taking a boat to which you have reason to believe they are not entitled PLEASE challenge them for both their safety, if inexperienced, and that of the equipment. Then inform one of the above mentioned members of Committee. Remember our insurance may be invalidated if these rules are not obeyed

COXSWAINS / STEERSPERSONS

With more boats going out more people will want to steer and cox Club boats. It must be remembered that in order for a bow steers or coxswain to go out at any time without the supervision of a launch directly alongside or in close proximity, they MUST be on the approved steers list displayed in the lounge and on the bar notice board. In order to be added to this list the steersperson/cox must demonstrate firstly to their squad coach their ability to control a boat on their own and must then seek the approval of either Dave White or me BEFORE ever taking a boat out unsupervised.

Please remember that this is for the safety of everyone and is not aimed at restricting everyone's enjoyment of what will hopefully be a long, hot summer.

I expect and appreciate everyone's assistance in adhering to all of the above.

Paul Baldwin
Captain
