VRC Flags Potential Members

Owing to the high number of new members interested in joining the Club, and in light of our desire to build on the growing squad strengths with our invitation to join, we feel an explanation of the current position is appropriate. The Committee of Vesta Rowing Club finds themselves in the difficult position of having to very carefully consider new applications for membership in light of the availability of places and space within the Club.

The Club as a whole, and each individual squad in particular, has a limited number of seats, dictated by boat availability, and thus a physically limited capacity for fulfilling the rowing expectations of its members. It would be unfair on the Club's existing and potential members to expand unabated as expectations could not be fulfilled. This applies across the squads.

Our invitation to come and try out Vesta Rowing Club and its unique and cosmopolitan atmosphere is sincere and I would openly commend our Club to anyone. We must, however, offer a viable proposition to members in terms of ability to cope with their requirements for equipment and space. Therefore, from now on application forms will only be available on request. These are available from the Honorary Secretary and the Assistant Honorary Treasurer. To obtain one please leave a note of personal details and rowing experience at the bar, in the mail box in the office or contact us by email through the website and forms will be left in addressed envelopes on the letters board at the Club.

Consideration of these applications will take into account the availability of places in the squad appropriate to the individual's level of rowing and aspirations. We will always do our very best to accommodate new members within our constraints.

I look forward to meeting new members on the water and in the bar.

Paul Baldwin,
Captain Vesta Rowing Club
