PLA River Review

Jim Harlow, the club's Deputy Captain and Safety officer (email: jim@vrc.org.uk) recently emailed to the all-vesta mailing list, warning of the PLA review. This message is repeated here.

Please take some time to read the attached document - it is important.

At the moment the PLA (Port of London Authority) are assessing our use of the river. Their perception is that most rowers have a very poor understanding of the rules of the river and/or pay little attention to them, which is dangerous.

They will be visiting clubs and they will be asking members questions.

Therefore please take a few minutes to read and inwardly digest the attached briefing sheet. I am sure that many members are well aware of most of the information, but please check if there is anything that may have slipped your mind.

In particular please take note of the local rule on page 2. Last year and indeed already this season, a great number of our incidents have occurred between the Black Buoy and Barn Elms and so we have come up with 3 rules to try and put a stop to this.

2 other parts I would like you to take note of is the rule that at night you MUST have 2 white lights on your boat, and that if you are involved in an incident there are 3 things that you must do.
